Job Title: Network Engineer


Network Engineers design and implement the hardware/software requirements of Scientel Solutions client’s wired/wireless IP networks. The Network Engineer performs network analysis, design, implementation and maintenance.  This includes wired and wireless LAN/WAN, 802.11 & VPN to meet the business growth requirements.


Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for performance analysis and optimization of Cisco data networks
  • Drive a strong design architecture that maximizes performance, link availability, and provides redundancy/diversity while also meeting budgetary objectives of customers
  • Effectively manage design projects and any issues that arise to insure that they meet aggressive deployment timelines
  • Maintain and deploy Cisco Layer 2/3 switches
  • Maintain upgrades/images
  • Maintain and deploy routers/switches (Cisco Preferred)
  • Maintain and monitor hardware logs
  • Design, maintain and deploy VLAN’s
  • Design, maintain and deploy firewalls and access lists (FortiGate, Cisco)
  • Design, maintain and deploy VPN Connectivity to customer sites if needed
  • Design, maintain and deploy a network monitoring system
  • Define network test plans and review results
  • Prepare Engineering standards documents for the Data Network
  • Work closely with vendors to accomplish hardware / software implementations within a timely manner
  • Maintain a high standard of support for the customer
  • Maintain a positive attitude, and project a high level of professionalism on behalf of IS to the customer
  • Maintain a clean and efficient work area, lab and data center
  • Must be able to work with little to no direction in certain situations
  • Must be a self-starter and able to receive tasks and deliver results
  • Must be able to meet deadlines set by management or client


Minimum Experience and Educational Requirements

  • Minimum of two years experience in data networking and wireless technologies
  • CCENT or CCNA Certified (must be CCNA certified within 6 months of hire)
  • Working level knowledge and experience in IP networking
  • 2+ years’ experience designing, managing and implementing large network (wired or wireless) deployments.
  • Bachelors degree in computer science, electrical engineering, telecommunications or equivalent.
  • Must be able to verbally demonstrate troubleshooting steps of Layer2/Layer3 networks
  • Strong understanding of IP Subnetting
  • Understanding of Cisco Routers & Switches
  • Understanding of Layer 2 vs. Layer 3
  • Understanding of Port Channel/Ether Channel (Layer 2 vs. Layer 3)
  • Understanding of Spanning Tree types distinct types and interoperability
  • Understanding of how to implement and propagate VLANs across a L2 network
  • Understanding of how to implement L2 redundant network topologies
  • Understanding of Cisco Wireless Family of Products including Management and Security
  • Knowledge of how to troubleshoot various Spanning Tree protocol issues
  • Understanding of Routing Protocols – EIGRP and OSPF
  • Strong organizational and planning skills, and capable of managing several complex tasks at a time
  • Ability to manage personal workload, vendors, and deliverables, to meet aggressive project timelines
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent interpersonal, time management and problem solving skills
  • Excellent documentation skills; must be able to provide written updates for all levels of management
  • Comfortable using Visio and other documentation products
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Capable of climbing ladders/stairs while carrying test equipment
  • Strong work ethic and team player


Certifications, Licenses and Additional Requirements:

  • Network certifications are a plus. Network +, Security +, CompTIA.
  • Additional certifications in one or more of the following is desired: Cisco, Juniper, Extreme
  • Travel within the region and/or throughout the country is required
  • May be required to obtain a passport for occasional out of country deployment
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record
  • Must pass an extensive background check and/or drug screening tests
  • Must have or obtain OSHA Construction Industry 10-Hour DOL Card
