Scientel Solutions Increases Safety Protocols Throughout Burbank School District 111

Burbank School District 111 selected Scientel Solutions LLC (Scientel) as its integrator to add wireless access control to its existing Kantech platform. Through strategic engineering and punctual project management, the Scientel team worked alongside building contractors to install the wireless hubs and access control panels across four district buildings during a facility renovation project.

Over the last five years, K-12 education has seen an unfortunate influx of violent incidents on school grounds. As administrations and communities work together to overcome these circumstances, Burbank School District 111 has already taken additional steps to increase their students’ safety with the help of Scientel.

THE CHALLENGE

2023 has seen many disruptions in supply chain issues, but that didn’t stop the Scientel team from meeting their tight deadlines.

Ordering the locking hardware needed to complete the project on time caused slight difficulty for the team. In addition, the allotted time to complete this project was especially short given students’ schedules.

“Dan and his team have done an amazing job facilitating this project. A lot of upfront time and effort was put into this project to ensure a successful implementation over the summer.”

Though equipment procurement and planning happened in early May, the installation did not begin until early June. Typically, the installation process would take longer. However, it was crucial that implementation did not disrupt daily activities for the facilities. To meet the district’s needs, the Scientel team had to complete the project by the end of July, before classes resumed.

SCIENTEL’S SOLUTION

Scientel engineers installed multiple wireless hubs and access control panels that integrate directly into District 111’s existing Kantech system.

While students and faculty enjoyed their summers, the Scientel team got to work on adding wireless access control to every classroom door. To work ahead of supply chain delays, the Scientel procurement and project management teams ordered the equipment months before the installation.

“The project required that the locking hardware was ordered 4 to 6 months ahead of the project due to supply chain issues.”

As contractors worked to replace every classroom door, Scientel technicians simultaneously installed the locking mechanisms. While fitting the locks for each door, the security engineers began installing the control panels. In conjunction, Scientel’s engineers began working on the wireless hubs to establish the communication link between the hubs and panels.

“This project required a detailed plan of attack as it included the replacement of every door at each facility.”

After creating the links, the Scientel team could finally program the newly added devices into the district’s Kantech access control system. Although the window was short, the Scientel team made sure to have the solution implemented by the end of July, right before the start of the new school year.

THE RESULTS

Students and staff of District 111 feel an increased sense of safety after Scientel implements an access control solution.

As classes resumed and school was back in session, the students, faculty, and families felt a greater sense of security. Now that the district can oversee the access devices remotely, they can plan and respond accordingly in the event of an emergency.

“Staff and students feel more secure while facilities can maintain control of these access devices remotely.”

With Kantech technology, the district’s vision, and the Scientel team’s expertise, personnel can have greater classroom security across each facility. Throughout this project, the Scientel team demonstrated exceptional professionalism. As they navigated through delays and setbacks, they continued to work alongside the client every step of the way.

“I look forward to working with Dan and the Scientel team in the future.”
