Over the last two years, Scientel has partnered with numerous cities and communities to increase public safety measures through the use of License Plate Recognition (LPR) cameras. Scientel has statistically seen a significant decrease in vehicle-related crime where LPR cameras are located.
Vigilant LPR hardware from Motorola has also been a reliant source for the Illinois State Police (ISP) when it comes to cutting crime and repurposing valuable police time. “The ability to scan thousands of license plates has already led to the apprehensions of murderers, rapists, child predators, and other dangerous criminals”, the Drive Safely Network explains.
Those who have implemented LPR cameras, including both Scientel’s customers and the ISP have done so with the main objective being to utilize cameras to aid criminal investigations in vehicle-related crimes, including gun violence on interstates and throughout communities. Since the implementation of LPR cameras, the ISP has been able to identify individuals involved in, or who witnessed the shooting of 82% of the interstate shootings that have taken place in 2024. ISP Director Brendan F. Kelly states that using ALPR has significantly improved interstate crime investigations, noting that cases, where the shooting was fatal, increased the identification rate to 100%.
LPR camera technology provides law enforcement officials with immediate information on unlawful activity. The images provided by LPR cameras can be stored and retained, allowing them to be transferred between municipalities to aid in any ongoing investigations that span multiple cities, counties, or states. From January 1st, 2024, to May 31st, 2024, ISP was able to take enforcement action in at least 260 investigative cases using data provided by LPR cameras.
Vigilant’s LEARN database has also been a beneficial platform for law enforcement customers, granting them access to a platform that allows for data sharing between agencies. The database helps aid public safety personnel to close cases faster, decreasing administrative hours previously spent on chasing vehicle-related cases. Enterprise customers including homeowner associations, parking facilities, and many others can access the Vigilant ClientPortal for their data, where they are granted access to share with other enterprises at their discretion. Scientel has also seen a significant increase in the need for LPR cameras in many enterprise settings over the last few years. Casinos, property management companies, traffic control organizations, and various others have implemented the solution as both a safety protocol and as a way to gain better insight as to who is coming in and out at any given time.
The L6Q is a small, solar-powered camera that can be quickly deployed. Our team works with clients to develop and design the best plan based on their needs and to provide the most dependable LPR technology, while creating a safer environment for all.
