Job Title: Microwave Engineer


This position performs microwave system design and optimization for our municipal, utility, education, health care and corporate clients. The Microwave Engineer works closely with our technical staff, sales managers and clients in providing high-quality microwave communication solutions in both pre-sales and post-sales efforts.

Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities

  • Develop engineering plans and network designs of terrestrial microwave communication systems
  • Use various microwave software propagation/planning tools along with industry design standards to create high-quality microwave systems per customer requirements
  • Use various measurement tools to collect and analyze relevant data including Spectrum Analyzers, Oscilloscope, RF power meters, Frequency Counters, VSWR measurement tools, Trimble GPS system, and service monitors
  • Development of reports and various other technical documents to describe and support project related engineering efforts
  • Perform path surveys and publish reports for internal as well as external clients
  • Develop and perform training sessions for other employees that need to be made aware and become more fluent in various aspects of the Microwave Engineer’s duties and/or knowledge base
  • Meet with potential clients and current customers and act as a technical representative or resource regarding various projects and sales efforts
  • Interface with Frequency Coordinators and the FCC and effectively drive the frequency acquisition and licensing processes for projects
  • Strong understanding of microwave equipment technologies
  • Strong working knowledge of design software
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written skills are required
  • Excellent proficiency with Windows-based computer systems and networks is mandatory
  • Knowledge of frequency planning and capacity planning
  • Strong knowledge of microwave propagation and the effects of environmental conditions upon it
  • Knowledge of microwave hardware (antennas, coax, transmitter, receivers, etc.)
  • Expert knowledge and skill in using PathLoss microwave propagation and planning software
  • Working level knowledge and experience in IP networking
  • Experience working at communication sites/towers to validate dish alignment, installation quality, and support optimization is a must
  • Solid understanding and hands-on experience with microwave performance instrumentation and analysis tools
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage personal workload, vendors, and deliverables, to meet aggressive project timelines
  • Strong work ethic and team player
  • Ability to climb ladders/stairs while carrying test equipment

Minimum Experience and Educational Requirements

  • BSEE or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 3 years of progressively responsible microwave backhaul network design and engineering experience


Certifications, Licenses and Additional Requirements

  • Travel within the region and/or throughout the country is required
  • May be required to obtain a passport for occasional out of country deployment
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record
  • Must pass an extensive background check and/or drug screening tests
  • Must have or obtain OSHA Construction Industry 10-Hour DOL Card
